1. Who we are and these terms
Sharpen.cv is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] Ltd (company number [COMPANIES HOUSE NUMBER]), registered in England and Wales, registered office [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS, POSTCODE, United Kingdom](“we”, “us”, “our”). These Terms of Service form a legally binding agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using the service you confirm that you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to use Sharpen.cv. By registering you confirm that you meet this requirement. The service is intended for working professionals and is not directed at children. If we become aware that an account belongs to someone under 18, we may suspend or close it and delete the associated data.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that takes place under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
4. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not, and will not attempt to:
- use the service for any unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive or harmful purpose;
- submit content you do not have the right to use, or that infringes anyone else's rights;
- knowingly include false information in a CV in order to misrepresent your experience to an employer;
- upload malware, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other users' data, or our systems;
- interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the service or its infrastructure.
5. Automation, scraping and abuse
Access to Sharpen.cv is for individual, human, end-users. Unless we give you prior written permission, you must not:
- access, query or use the service or any API through automated means — including bots, scrapers, crawlers, headless browsers, scripts or other automated agents;
- circumvent, disable or interfere with rate limits, usage quotas, authentication, paywalls or any other access or security control;
- resell, sublicense, redistribute, or provide the service to third parties, or use it to build or train a competing product or model;
- create multiple or fake accounts to evade limits, trials or enforcement, or share a single account across many people;
- systematically extract, copy or harvest content, outputs or data from the service.
We use automated and manual measures to detect abuse, automation and anomalous usage, and we may process usage data for that purpose (see our Privacy Policy).
Consequences of breach
If we reasonably believe you have breached these terms — and in particular the acceptable-use and automation rules above — we may, at our discretion and without liability to you, take any of the following steps, with or without notice depending on the severity:
- issue a warning;
- apply rate limits, throttle, restrict or suspend some or all features;
- suspend or permanently terminate your account and access;
- remove or disable infringing or abusive content;
- withhold or cancel a refund where the breach is serious or deliberate;
- retain and disclose information to, and cooperate with, law-enforcement or regulators where we are legally required or where we believe in good faith it is necessary; and
- pursue any other legal remedy available to us, including recovering losses caused by your breach.
Termination for breach does not entitle you to a refund of fees already paid, except where the law requires otherwise.
6. The service and AI-generated output
Sharpen.cv uses artificial intelligence to analyse and rewrite CVs. The output is a set of suggestions that you review and control before use. We do not guarantee that using the service will result in interviews, job offers, or that any output will pass a particular applicant tracking system. You are responsible for reviewing all output and for ensuring that anything you submit to an employer is accurate and not misleading. AI output can contain errors — always check it.
7. Your content
You keep all ownership of the CVs, job descriptions and other content you submit. You grant us a limited licence to host, process and transmit that content (including to our AI subprocessors) solely to provide the service to you. You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not breach anyone else's rights.
8. Plans, billing and cancellation
- We offer a free tier, subscription plans and one-off purchases as described on our Pricing page. Prices and features may change; changes will not affect a billing period you have already paid for.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period and you retain access until then.
- Payments are processed by our payment provider. You authorise us and our provider to charge your chosen payment method.
- Applicable taxes (such as VAT) will be added where required.
Your statutory cancellation rights
As a consumer you normally have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Because our service provides digital content and is supplied immediately, by purchasing and starting to use a paid feature you consent to immediate supply and acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right to cancel once the service has been fully performed. This does not affect your other legal rights.
9. Availability
We work to keep the service available but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend or withdraw features, including for maintenance, security or to comply with the law.
10. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). Subject to that, we are not liable for loss of profits, loss of opportunity (including job opportunities), or indirect or consequential loss; and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in that period or £100. We provide the service with reasonable care and skill as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015; this does not affect your statutory rights.
11. Termination by you
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. On deletion we will remove your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update or revise these terms from time to time — for example to reflect changes to the service, or for legal, regulatory, security or operational reasons. When we do, we will post the revised terms on this page and update the “last updated” date above. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will give you reasonable advance notice by email or in the product before it takes effect.
Changes are not retroactive: they do not affect a subscription period or a one-off purchase you have already paid for. If you continue to use the service after a change takes effect, that counts as accepting the updated terms. If you do not agree to a change, you can stop using the service and cancel or delete your account at any time (see section 11); this does not affect your statutory rights.
13. Referral programme
If you take part in our referral or affiliate programme, the separate Referral Programme Terms apply and form part of these terms. They explain how referrals are tracked, the discount your referrals receive, how commission is earned and capped, and — importantly — when commission becomes payable (only once it is no longer refundable) and when we pay it. Commission is reversed if the underlying payment is refunded or charged back.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you live elsewhere in the UK you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
